Captain Cook discovered what he named “Dusky Bay” in 1770, in the remote area of Fiordland on the South Island’s West Coast. Cook returned again 1773 to rest and provision. In the 1960’s two Brothers set out retrace the history of Dusky Sound covering Cook’s time and subsequent human settlement by Sealers and Whalers. The book includes observations of the animals and plant life of what is a very beautiful but challenging part of New Zealand.
