By Sir Michael O’Dwyer. An Irish Colonial Officer in the Indian Civil Service who served as the Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab from 1913 to 1919. His tenure is widely remembered for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. O’Dwyer was assassinated in 1940, in London by an Indian activist who held him responsible for the death of unarmed civilians in the 1919 massacre.
