‘King of the Castle’ is the story of nineteenth century businessman and politician William Larnach. In New Zealand, William Larnach is perhaps best remembered for the home he built on the Otago Peninsula, known as Larnach Castle. He also has the tragic distinction of being the only politician to commit suicide in the Parliament building.
King of the Castle is a fascinating biography of an early New Zealander whose life covers a dynamic period of our history, when a young colony was developing into a nation and speculative business ventures, some successful, and others spectacularly not so, abounded.
