FRONTIER is written by Historian Peter Maxwell, who was prompted to provide a more accurate record of the period and portrayal of New Zealand history in response to past and revisionist historians and perhaps James Belich in particular along with the TV series “The New Zealand Wars”. The Author spent 10 years researching and writing what some might prefer to regard as a controversial perspective of this period in New Zealand history. Peter Maxwell addresses what he regards as the obvious myths and misconceptions that have surrounded that period which have been perpetuated by past Historians since Victorians first recorded the events from 1860 to 1872. While the Victorian version of events was certainly lacking the Author makes clear that he regards the Revisionist spin on that same history as totally inadequate and fails dismally to acknowledge the reality of the relationship between Maori and Europeans during the Battle for the North Island.
