This copy of the Scoullar & Chisholm Cook Book is not only RARE but in remarkable condition for a Cookbook that dates back to the late 19th Century. The book is extraordinarily comprehensive and covers a diverse range of subjects related to cooking and household management from that time, as indicated in the photo’s. Undoubtedly, this book contains pearls of wisdom and recipe’s that should not be dismissed.
Scoullar & Chisholm Limited, established in 1864 was an early Dunedin based Importer, Furniture Manufacturer and Retailer. At Scoullar & Chisholm’s Rattray St (Dunedin) site the Company manufactured Furniture and had a 3 storey retail showroom on the same site. The showroom displayed their own furniture and furniture imported from England, Scotland, the Continent and the U.S.A. The company also sold an extensive range of home furnishings and homewares including carpet, linoleum, curtains & blinds, linen, bedding, ironmongery, china and glass - almost anything a homeowner could desire at the time. In I889 the Company expanded to Wellington and the name changed to Scoullar Company Ltd. in 1902.
Publishing date is not recorded - but definitely prior to 1902 and perhaps the opening of the Wellington Branch in 1889, which is not mentioned. It is not unlikely the Book was produced to coincide with the Dunedin and South Seas Exhibition 1889/1890 where the Scoullar & Chisholm exhibited.

Condition :- Overall Good - Pages have a manila appearance but no foxing or finger marks. - Cover is worn on the folds of the spine, the lettering is also worn off the spine and an image of the retail store on the back cover has worn off.
